A heavy yet hopeful heart
Drawing from Romans 8:38–39, Patricia Shropshire, second-year master's of divinity candidate, preached at the final Community Worship of Black History Month on behalf of GABLE, our LGBTQI student, faculty and staff group. Holy Week encounters
The Vanderbilt Divinity School community experienced Easter locally, nationally and internationally. From an opinion piece about Holy Week and the hatred of Jews to denominational blogs, our students, faculty and alumni explored unique messages during this sacred time.
Read Amy-Jill Levine's opinion piece, "Holy Week and the Hatred of Jews".
Carol Transou and Bedford Transou, MDiv'60, both Board of Visitor members, sent in pictures of their Easter experience in Paris, France, where the American church they are serving produced more than 1,000 origami cranes, which were used to decorate the sanctuary as symbols of good health, long life, hope and peace.
Four VDS family members wrote for the GLAD Alliance during Easter on the topic of sexuality and faith within the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
Viki Matson, director of field education at Vanderbilt Divinity School, explores our call in "To Come with Bread."
Hear from Jamie Lynn Haskins, MDiv'09, in her reflection "Bittersweet."
Kara Kleinschmidt Foster, MDiv'04, speaks to "A Pastors' Job."
Read a post by William O. Paulsell, BDiv'59, MA'61, PhD'65, titled, "A New Experience."
Laura Rossbert, a second-year master's of divinity candidate, co-hosted Rethink Church's seven-week Lenten video devotional, Journey to Hope. She and her partner, Brian, interviewed several Vanderbilt Divinity School friends, alumni and students, including Cathy Chalmers on suffering and Lindsey Krinks on money.
