Is there no balm in Gilead? Cal Turner Program for Moral Leadership hosts conference on health care and justice Not only is health care an important political issue, it is a moral and religious one. Just over a year after the passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, Chris McCain, a second-year master of divinity student, had an idea to encourage local religious leaders to join the conversation. With the support of the Cal Turner Program for Moral Leadership and the Professions, McCain's idea of convening leaders from local churches, synagogues, hospitals and nonprofit organizations was made a reality through at a half-day conference held March 3. Vanderbilt Pastoral Care joins forces with doctors to address complicated grief The Rev. Lillian Strahine, MDiv'09, a chaplain with Vanderbilt Pastoral Care, has entered into a unique partnership with two Vanderbilt doctors to develop a plan to provide better emotional support to patients and families who experience loss or life-altering injury. This innovative partnership is touching the lives of patients and medical providers and will eventually result in the development of a regional bereavement support network. Read more >> |

Paul Chang-Ha Lim, assistant professor of the history of Christianity, was selected as one of the seven scholars to be named Henry Luce III Fellows in Theology for 2011–2012. While Mark Miller-McLemore, assistant professor of the practice of ministry and dean of the Disciples Divinity House, was on sabbatical this past fall, he published two articles about renewal and leadership. "The Dark Side of Sabbatical" was published on the Duke Divinity sponsored Faith and Leadership website. Additionally, Miller-McLemore published "Leadership in Scarcity" in Congregations, the magazine of the Alban Institute.
